Added firworks for 4th of July

May 15, 2012
By John Speer - E , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

There may be more fireworks this 4th of July and not the kind that took place last year. The Tama City Council approved adding $5,200 in leftover fireworks funds donated by the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel to the pool of money already committed by the cities of Toledo and Tama. Each city has been chipping in $2,500 annually to pay for the display at the Toledo City Park. The plan to use the casino contribution will also require Toledo City Council approval. The Meskwaki donation was received last year after the fireworks event and was held over. Something of a controversy developed when the fireworks were delayed due to weather conditions on July 4th and the display took place instead at the conclusion of Toledo's Stoplight Festival on July 8. Tama Council members have made it clear they will only commit city money for a display on the 4th of July date.
