The Wieting Theatre and Opera House
A lady just sent to me a nice check for the Wieting Theatre Restoration Project and she remarked how small midwest communities come together in time of need like no other place in the USA.
The Wieting re-opened on Feb. 4, 2012 and the Wieting Theatre Guild has done a fine job in operating and managing the Theatre and Opera House. Movies have been shown each weekend and there have been other live shows such as a dance recital, a Gospel Show and a program by Jeff Stein. Other live performances are planned for this summer and fall.
The formal dedication of the Wieting will be held on Sun. July 1, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. Denise Fletcher and her committee are working on a dedication book to celebrate the 100th year of the Opera House.
Now, I want to bring everyone up to date on the status of our fundraising. The details are as follows:
Total cost of the project- $1,360,664.00
Total funds on hand- $1,185,443.00
Balance to raise- $175,221.00
Over 540 local businesses and people have donated to this community project and we so want to thank them for this good help on the restoration of a historical theatre and opera house.
We hope to raise the balance of $175,221.00 by Jan. 1, 2014 in order to retire the line of credit the Trustees received to fund this project.
Any donations that you can make can be mailed to me as Project Manager. My address is 721 Country View Dr., Toledo, Ia. 52342.
If anyone or any group would like a personal tour of the Opera House please call me at (c)641:751-6822 or (H)641:484-3570.
I am so proud of my South Tama County Community and how we have all worked together on this historical project. Our young people will all get so much benefit from your fine help on the theatre.
Thanks to the Opera House Trustees, the Wieting Theatre Guild and the many volunteers at the Theatre for all your good work.
See ya at the Wieting,
