Vinton A boil advisory was issued this morning - Nov. 9 - for the city of Vinton in Benton County due to total coliform and E. coli positive bacteria sampling results.
The city of Vinton and the DNR cautions residents to boil their drinking water until test results show the water is safe to drink.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute. Let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. Untreated water can be used for bathing and similar purposes.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Bacteria in the water may pose greater health risks for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
Call the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 for more information.
After water samples collected test clean for bacteria and sample sites are evaluated, the DNR and the city of Vinton will lift the advisory.
