The Tama County Sheriff's Office said in a news release issued at 4:27 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, the victims of the light plane which crashed northwest of Clutier on Wednesday are William (Bill) Konicek, 69, the pilot who died at the scene and Max Morrison, 63, who was a passenger and who was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa city where he is listed in critical condition. Both men are Traer residents. The identification was made by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny according to the Sheriff's Office.
The plane struck power lines near the intersection of Tama county Roads R Avenue and 245th Street and caught fire, the Sheriff's Office said. Clutier and Traer firefighters and Traer ambulance and Clutier first responders were dispatched to the scene about 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The remains of a 1946 airplane which crashed near Clutier and burned on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2012, killing the pilot and severely injuring a passenger.
