The South Tama Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team traveled to Grinnell on Nov. 30. The Trojans won two out of three games against the Tigers.
The A-team lost the opener by a score of 47-21. Minnie Climer, Serena Lowe, Kaitlin Berger, Shae Slaven, Lauren Yuska, Abby Llewellyn, Allison Yuska and Jordyn Thompson all played in the first game.
Allison Yuska led the Trojans with six pts, Lowe and Climer - four points, Berger three, Llewellyn two, and Slaven one. Lowe and Llewellyn each had five rebounds for the night. Climer had three assists.
The B-team won 14-10 against Grinnell. Sabrina Holtz, Shayla Peshel, Brycelyn Haughey, Mikaila Collier, Mallory Thede, Nyana Eubanks, Megan Skyberg, Abby Llewellyn, Kaitlin Berger and Lauren Yuska played for South Tama.
Collier won the possession for the Trojans and the girls took it down to the baseline where Holtz made the assist to Collier for the basket. Collier had a high score of 10 points, along with three steals and five rebounds. Holtz added two points and three assists, while Llewellyn scored two points. Haughey played great defense with four steals for the night.
The C-team won by a score of 16-12. Collier led the scoring with six points, three steals and four rebounds. Autumn Papakee had 5 points (including the only three-pointer for the night), 1 steal, assist, and two rebounds. Celia Roberts had two points, one steal and one rebound. Alana Neave took care of the ball for the Trojans and Rachael Wise, Anna Dvorak, Mira Wanatee, Andrea Murillo, Megan Skyberg, and Nyana Eubanks all helped with the win.
The South Tama Trojans eighth grade girls basketball team played their first game at home against Union on November 20, 2012. The A-team played a tough game, but Union put the press on and came out on top, 56-20.
Minnie Climer, Serena Lowe, Kaitlin Berger, Lauren Yuska and Shae Slaven started for the Trojans. Climer led the Trojans with seven points, Lowe had four points, Llewellyn with four points, Slaven - three points, Berger - two points. Allison Yuska, Abby Llewellyn, Mallory Thede, Analea Ordaz, and Sabrina Holtz rounded out the lineup.
The B-team of Ordaz, Shayla Peshel, Jordyn Thompson, Megan Skyberg, Nyana Eubanks, Brycelyn Haughey, Mikaila Collier, Celia Roberts, Anna Dvorak, Autumn Papakee, Alana Neave, Rachael Wise, Kaley Keep, Mira Wanatee, Andrea Murillo and Lacy Leibli were close to winning for South Tama but Union won. Brycelyn Haughey and Jordyn Thompson led the scoring with four points each, followed up with two points each from Ordaz, Peshel and Collier.
