STC eighth grade boys win back-to-back games

January 17, 2013
By Coach Lon Wilkerson , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The South Tama County Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team traveled to Radcliff on Thursday, January 10, for its game against South Hardin.

Early on, the Tigers hurt the Trojans inside with easy layups, but STC fought back . The first half was a good game as the Trojans led 15-12. STC had a hard time getting shots to fall and South Hardin worked to go inside the lane. The Trojans came out in a 2-3 zone and it worked to shut down the Tigers for the second half.

The Trojans turned up the ball pressure and had some steals that led to easy baskets. The STC offense hit some shots and played good defense. The final score was 35-22 in favor of the Trojans. It was a good effort for the team of six as they kept working hard and finished strong on both sides of the court.

STATS:

Scoring - Clayton Rosenberger 18, Riley Davenport 13, Hunter Filloon and Jarret Morris 2 each.

Rebounds - Davenport 6, Rosenberger and Morris 3 each, Filloon and Valdez 1.

Steals - Rosenberger 7, Morris, Filloon and Valdez 2 each.

The eighth grade boys basketball team hosted the Union Knights on Friday, January 11. STC started the game down 7-5 in the first quarter, but led at halftime 15-7. Good defense and pressure on the ball helped the Trojans get the lead. Union never recovered and the zone defense of STC kept them from doing much scoring inside.

The Trojans came out with a 35-22 victory. Clayton Rosenberger had 11steals that led to several easy layups and the inside defense of Onel Valdez and Riley Davenport helped lead the Trojans to a win.

This team has only six members and they continue to work together and hustle their tails off for the entire game. Every game out they give it all they have and that is all I can ask for as a coach. Their record is 6-3 with games against Benton, West Marshall and Williamsburg remaining.

STATS:

Scoring - Rosenberger 22, Davenport 11, Hunter Filloon 2.

Rebounds - Davenport 6, Valdez, Filloon, Morris, and Rangel 2 each.

Steals - Rosenberger 11, Davenport 3, Filloon, Morris, and Valdez 1 each.
