The South Tama County seventh grade boys basketball team hosted Williamsburg on Jan. 22 at the STC Middle School. This would be a tough game for the Trojans A-team as Williamsburg always plays very good basketball.
The Trojans came out and played fairly even through one quarter as Williamsburg led 10-8. The story of the game would be rebounding. STC could not get to the boards at either end and Williamburg always was in the right spot. At halftime, the score was 20-14 in favor of Williamsburg.
STC did not quit and showed good hustle at both ends. The post players did not get to the boards enough and we could not get any second chances on a miss. Offensively STC worked the ball around and managed some scoring but Williamsburg would not give up the lead. The score after three quarters was 27-22 in favor of the Raiders. STC could only match scoring in the last quarter and Williamsburg pulled out a 32-28 victory.
Rebounding was the key. STC had a hard time getting to the boards and that was the difference. Williamsburg made more shots and had more chances than we did. This group did not quit and played to the buzzer. I am proud of the effort they have shown all year. They ended the season with a record of 7-5.

The STC B-team was up next and trying to get a win that the A team couldn't. This game was all STC from the start. At halftime STC led 10-3.
Several players scored on offense as STC passed the ball very well. Williamsburg had a hard time scoring and STC played some pressure defense that caused some turnovers. The Trojans would go on to win this game 24-8.
This group has really hustled in every game. I am proud of the effort they gave and the dedication to attending all the morning practices. They still have some work to do on the fundamentals but many are starting to learn the basics of the game. Time spent this spring and summer will determine how good these players want to get. The record for the B team this year was 8-3.
