Julie Ann (Dvorak) Chmielewski

Julie Ann (Dvorak) Chmielewski returned to God on June 5, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, Illi., due to scleroderma, with her loving family by her side. She was laid to rest at Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Toledo, following a mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine on Monday, June 10, with Rev. Michael Mescher and Deacon Joe Behounek officiating.

Julie Ann (Dvorak) Chmielewski was born on Dec. 15, 1967, to Joseph and Carmel (Connie) (Behounek) Dvorak in Cedar Rapids. She received her education at North Tama High School and graduated in 1986. She attended the University of Iowa and later received her Master's Degree in Education. She had a passion for teaching and reaching young lives and mostly recently taught at Warren Township High School in Guerney, Ill.

She was united in marriage to Steve Chmielewski on June 20, 1992 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea. They made their home in Cary, Ill., with their beloved Persian cat, Franklin.

She was the spark of life for her family and was a loving aunt. She was a great hostess, cook, and entertainer. Julie's door was also open to anyone and always welcomed them for a night on the town. She had a love for the outdoors, including gardening, tending flowers, mowing, and spending time on the farm. She enjoyed the retreat to the farm but also appreciated the thrill of the city. Her passion for sports included playing, coaching and cheering on her favorite team.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph C. and Elizabeth Dvorak and Leo and Mildred Behounek, and her godmother, Pat Veit.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; parents, Joseph G. and Carmel (Connie) (Behounek) Dvorak of Clutier; siblings, Jill (Bill) Zouras (Will and Mary Grace) of Downer's Grove, Ill.; Gina (Marty) Magnussen (Jack, Max, and Elle) of Marion; Joy (Nate) Severin (Alexa) of Marion; Jay (Jennifer) Dvorak (Andrea, Jared, and Paul) of Clutier; and Jayne Dvorak of Marion.

The family is being assisted by Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine.
