Letter to the Editor:
I do believe that most people will agree with that this has been an extremely long winter. I personally am not a cold weather type person.
But in the brunt of things, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the Public Works Dept of Toledo for all the work and hours they have put in fixing water mains and sewers. Also thank you to Scharnweber Water and Twin Cities Construction for helping when problems were piling up.
Up to this point, the city has had more than 14 water main repairs, 5 frozen water lines, and 2 frozen sewer lines. Normally, there would be maybe 4 to 6 water main repairs. As a result, the Public Works budget got hit tremendously hard this winter. And there may still be more water breaks before all the frost gets out of the ground.
While all this repair work was going on they still had to plow snow, haul snow, and do sanding of the streets. So if the citizens think Toledo streets are in such bad shape, I would have to assume that this was the first year they lived in the midwest. It snows and gets cold in Iowa!!!! Over all I think our streets were in pretty decent shape compared to towns I have been in.
On the brighter side of the weather situation, I have faith that the weather will warm up. Just don't grumble when the weather gets into the 90's. Think back about the winter.
Again, I appreciate all the city employees who put forth extra effort to make life livable in Toledo.
