In the third and final meeting of the season the STC Trojans topped the Williamsburg Raiders 65-38.
The Trojans hosted the Raiders for the first round of regional girls basketball on Saturday, February 11. The two teams being in the same conference meant they were familiar opponents. The series began in December with a 73-51 victory for the Trojans. In their second meeting STC captured a 51-38 win. In their final meeting the two teams were paired together for round one of the Class 3A regional girls basketball playoffs. South Tama came out ahead again with a 65-38 victory.
The Trojans got out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, holding the Raiders to just six points in the first eight minutes. Williamsburg did find a bit of a groove in the second quarter, scoring 16 points.

Despite the second quarter run, the Raiders could never get a handle on the speed and agility of STC's leading scorer Jessica Musgrave. In each matchup Musgrave dominated offensively by creating turnovers which often resulted in points on the other end. Musgrave is scrappy and can force steals at the top of the key which makes her an excellent transitional ball player. Saturday saw a bit of a focus change for the sophomore as Musgrave also worked on her shooting. She had an above average night from deep, hitting 2-5 from beyond the arc. Kaitlin Berger again led her team shooting 3-7 from three-point range. She finished with 12 total points.
Three-point shooting appeared to be an area of focus on the night as the Trojans fired off 23 three pointers, which ties their own season high mark. All three of those games resulted in victories for the Trojans.
The girls win was the cherry on top of a great day for Trojan fans. Earlier in the day, South Tama students competed at WaMaC Individual speech were the team took 2nd overall. The STC wrestlers sent six from their roster on to the state tournament. And the girls move on to round two of regional play.
The Trojans will play WaMaC powerhouse Center Point-Urbana in Center Point on Wednesday, February 15. The Stormin' Pointers (19-3) finished 2nd in the conference with two losses to Class 4A's top ranked Marion (20-1) and one loss to third ranked Grinnell (17-4). The Trojans have lost both matchups with the Pointers so maybe a little redemption is in store for South Tama. Time will tell.
