Ruth Kriz, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, (formerly of Toledo, Iowa) passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home.
Public visitation for Ruth will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following the visitation, Ruth will have a brief prayer service held by Pastor Dewey Grimes. Private family burial will be held following the prayer service. Ruth Schroeder was born on October 6, 1924 in Sheridan, Iowa, the daughter of William and Esther (Haynes) Schroeder. She was raised and educated in the Tama County School District graduating from Tama High School. Ruth was united in marriage to Alfred Brandt. From this union three children were born: Dennis, Nickey and Connie. Ruth and Alfred later divorced. She was then blessed to meet and unite in marriage with Vince Kriz until he passed.
Ruth was a hard working woman, dedicating many of her working years at the Big T Maid-Rite, T & T Department Store and also helped out with both nursing homes in Tama and Toledo. She was a proud member of the Toledo American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Tama-Toledo Eagles. Ruth had a passion for dancing, playing cards, cleaning, and making her delicious fried chicken and chicken gravy most every Sunday for her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her children: Dennis (Kay) Brandt, Nickey Slagle and Connie (Ron) Dostal; grandchildren: Shannon, Heather, Ryan and Jessi; great-grandchildren: Josh, Grayden, Marley, Ashton, Macy, Kennedy, Levi and Elise; AND one brother, Billy (Joyce) Schroeder.
She is preceded in death by Alfred, the father of her children; husband, Vince Kriz; parents, William and Esther; and one sister, Jean Zhorne.
