South Tama assistant coach Scott Bolen spoke about the importance of participating in upcoming opportunities throughout the spring. A big event coming up for STC's State Champ, Isaac Judge will be the War at the West Gym on UNI's campus. The event presented by IAWrestle will be a who's who of Iowa wrestling. Judge will take on Cayd Lara (Fort Dodge). Lara is the brother of three time State Finalist Tristan Lara. He took second at this years Class 3A 152 bout to Nelson Brands. The meet up will be a rematch for Judge and Lara who met at the Independence Invite early in the 2016-17 season. Lara got the win by fall (1:12). The event will be on Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m. at UNI's west Gym. Tickets can be purchased online.
Another highlight for South Tama wrestling as a whole was the increased numbers at the middle school level. Travis Smith was present to recap the middle school season. This year the middle school team more than doubled their numbers from the 2015-16 season. They had 18 out for middles school wrestling, 13 7th graders and 5 8th graders.
Jason Arp was also present to discuss Trojan Warrior Elite wrestling club (TWE). Their numbers were good as well with 38 students out. Sixteen of those students were advanced wrestlers and the rest were beginners.
