Evelyn E. Mayer, 86, of Chelsea, Iowa passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Sunny Hill Care Center of Tama, IA.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chelsea, IA. with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelsea.

Evelyn E. Mayer
Evelyn was born November 7, 1930 the daughter of George and Marie (Dolash) Hlas. She attended Chelsea School. Following school, she worked as a waitress and a nanny in Tama. After WWII Evelyn met Ludvik Mayer, the two were married March 28, 1951. Together they lived in Chelsea where Evelyn was a housewife until the 80's when she went to work for Benco, where she worked for nearly ten years.
She loved jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, playing cards, collecting owls. Evelyn enjoyed watching gameshows. In her early years, she loved gardening and bird watching. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (Denny) Gorsch, of Tama, IA; grandchildren, Jenny, Jon, Laura, Rob, Sheila, Chuck, Patty; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Hlas; sister, Eleanor Van Nevel, Sister Mary Hlas; sister-in-law, Velma Hlas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ludvik Mayer; daughter, Veronica Lyon; sister, Elsie Klenk; brothers, Elmer Hlas, and Ernie Hlas.
