Gretta Lois (Staley) Fisher, 96, of Chelsea, IA joined her family members in Heaven on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, IA.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Rector Cemetery, Chelsea.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com
Gretta Lois (Staley) Fisher
Gretta was born on November 22, 1920 to Peter and Edna (Errington) Staley. Gretta was the youngest of three daughters. She had two older sisters Mary and Kathryn. Gretta and her sisters were raised by their mother, Edna, and maternal grandparents in McIntire, Iowa. Gretta attend and graduated from high school in McIntire.
Gretta was united in marriage to Clarence Harold Fisher, August 8, 1942. Together they had four children, Jerald, Dean, Lois, and Linda. They moved to Chelsea, Iowa in 1953 and resided there for over fifty years. Clarence worked for Chicago Northwestern in Chelsea and surrounding rural towns. Gretta worked and retired from the Chelsea School, were she was the secretary and librarian. After retiring Gretta helped raise her grandchildren, traveled with Clarence, spent time square dancing, and playing cards. Gretta was a member of the Chelsea Methodist church, United Methodist Women, Golden Girls, and Eastern Star.
Gretta has 13 grandchildren who she enjoyed creating memories with Lisa, Susan, Ian, Amy, Lynette, Clinton, Jennifer, Brett, Daniel, Martin, Susan, Katie, and Megan. Gretta has 26 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Gretta and Clarence moved to Toledo in early 2000s. They were united in marriage for 64 years until his passing in 2006. Gretta moved to Sunny Hill Care in 2011 and became a part of the Sunny Hill family.
Continuing to honor her life are her children, Dean Fisher (Celia Rodine) and Lois (Vernon) Broyles; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and special family members Dodie Fisher, Cris Fisher, Sally Fisher and Leonard Hlas.
Gretta is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Staley; sisters, Kathryn and Mary; husband, Clarence; grandson, Ian Fisher; daughter, Linda Hlas and son, Jerald Fisher.
