Virginia “Ginny” Henderson

April 20, 2017
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Virginia "Ginny" Henderson was born November 29, 1919, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Brigham and Mae Belle Wheelock. She graduated from Colfax High School. In 1941 she received a BA from Simpson College in Indianola.

Virginia married Kenneth Henderson in 1942. Following World War II, they made their home in Toledo. For many years after their retirement they lived on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and spent their winters in Mission, Texas. In 1998 they moved to Texas permanently. After Ken's death in 2012, Virginia moved to Georgetown, Texas, where she died on April 18, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, a brother, R. Brigham Wheelock, and a grandson, Timothy Kendall.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Gary Wilke) of Georgetown, Texas and Mary Ann (Phil Allen) of Mission, Texas; a grandson, Mike Duhachek; a granddaughter, Jennifer Willis; and three great-grandsons, Spencer, Carter, and Parker Willis.

Ginny was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, P.E.O., and the First Christian Church in Mission, Texas. She was a gifted musician, enjoying singing in the church choir and playing the piano and organ. Her many talents included sewing, gardening, ceramics, and a variety of crafts.

All who knew her will remember her thoughtfulness and kindness. She was the first at the door with chicken soup when someone was ill. Following a death, she always showed up with a hug, casserole, and her love.

She leaves us all with wonderful memories.
