Kalinay breaks 26-year old school record, runs third-fastest time in Division III

Sports editor note: Kalinay graduated from STC in 2014. He is the son of James and Tammy Kalinay of Toledo. In his junior year at STC Kalinay was part of the Class 3A State Champion 4x100 team (Dylan Kalinay, Kaleb Davenport, Daryl Bidwell and Kyle Stephenson). He was the only returning member of the STC 4x100 relay team in his senior year. The 2014 quartet of Kalinay, Tyler Blocker, Zach Morris and Robert Tyynismaa placed 5th overall.

IOWA CITY/PELLA, Iowa - Dylan Kalinay set a school record in the 110-meter hurdles at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City while the Simpson men's track and field team captured nine event titles on the way to winning the Central Open in Pella on Saturday.

The Storm had a split squad Saturday as select events competed in Iowa City. The remainder of the squad scored 236 points to edge Central (230) at the Central Open, Simpson's third meet championship of the season.

Kalinay highlighted Simpson's day at the Musco Twilight, running 14.30 to place third behind runners from Iowa and Iowa Central CC. His time is the third fastest in Division III, tops in the Iowa Conference and surpassed the school record of 14.33 set back in 1991 by All-American Mike Godbout.

The Storm won nine event titles at the Central Open, including a third-straight win in the javelin throw by Braden Meints, thanks to a personal-best toss of 161-feet, 8-inches. Sam Adeniyi won the 110 hurdles in 15.43, the IIAC's fifth-fastest time, and Keagan Zwiefel ran the IIAC's No. 7 time in the 200 (22.23) to win the event.
