Betty L. Brubaker, age 76, of Gilman, died on Thursday evening, May 11, 2017, at Mercy ?Medical Center in Des Moines.

A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Dave Crow, Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and her family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Betty Lou Brubaker was born the daughter of Emil Henrich William Kroeger and Alice Wilma (Berry) Kroeger on May 28, 1940, in Toledo, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Tama, Iowa.

Betty was united in marriage to Dennis Lee Brubaker on March 30, 1959, in Iowa City and the couple made their home in the Grinnell area. They moved to Gilman in 1972, where Dennis was employed as plant manager for Mid-Iowa Telephone Company and Betty owned and operated Homestyle Caf in Gilman. Her Homestyle Caf would draw customers from far away to enjoy the amazing food she prepared, especially her pies. She attended beauty school in Marshalltown and operated a hair salon in her home. She was a member of the Gilman Fire Department Auxiliary.

On January 15, 2013, Betty was united in marriage to her friend of 50 years, David Price in Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived in Gilman and Betty worked as a cook for Meskwaki Casino in Tama.

Betty's family always came first, especially her grandchildren. She loved being outdoors, whether taking rides across the country on Dennis' motorcycle to camping, fishing and gardening. She will be remembered as being driven, a hard-worker, tenacious, and a devoted wife, mother and friend to many.

Betty is survived by her husband, David Price of Gilman; daughter, Pamela (Doug) Thege of Gilman; son, William (Megan) Brubaker of Marysville, Washington; 7 grandchildren, Tim (Andrea) McGerr of Marshalltown, Angela (Randy) Denham of Gilman, Kelsey Brubaker of Seattle, Wa., Elliot Brubaker of Bellingham Wa., Grayson Brubaker of Marysville, Wa., and Kaitlyn McDonald and JJ McDonald of Guernsey; 7 great grandchildren, Gavin McGerr, Kassandra McGerr, Ethan McGerr all of Marshalltown, Sebastian Denham, Zachary Denham, Adalyn Denham, Kameron Denham all of Gilman; and her siblings, Shirley Taylor of Toledo, Francis "Butch" Kroeger of Toledo, and Phyllis Dauma of Blair, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis Brubaker on December 12, 1999; daughter, Denise Rae Brubaker, who died in infancy; and brother, Russell, Wayne and Donald Kroeger.
