Contract offered for South Tama Superintendent spot

An interim one-year contract was offered to Jeff Berger, Ankeny, to fill the South Tama Schools superintendent's post. The offer was made during a special meeting of the school board on Wednesday night, May 24. Voting to offer the contract were members Penny Tyynismaa, Alan Kline, Jackie Dvorak and Michelle Yuska. Member Mark McFate was absent.

The board recently did not renew the contract of present Superintendent Mary Jones.

Berger is the former deputy director of the Iowa Department of Education, having reported to have served in the department for 20 years before leaving in September, 2016.

According to Berger's Linkedin web page he, "managed the Division of School Finance and Support Services, which includes four work units and was the CFO, CIO, and COO of the agency. He was also the federal liaison."

The contract offers would pay $140,000 annually beginning July 1.

Berger holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Iowa State University according to the Linkedin website.
