Supports keeping Community Building / Senior Center

June 23, 2017
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Letter to the Editor:

Regarding plans to discontinue services /f acilities at the Toledo Senior Center/Toledo Community Hall

To whom it may concern:

Have you driven lately through Tama and Toledo? How many vehicles do you see at business places? How many businesses are there left in town? Do you see that gas stations DO have business? Yes, they do-A good thriving business- Why? BECAUSE everybody's going out of town to do their business. Rumor has it that now the Toledo Senior Center is going to be demolished. The Toledo Senior Center has been used for Seniors in this Community Building for years. Where food, fellowship, activities for all ages can congregate. Seniors keep active and discuss health concerns with a nurse. Many don't see the value in this old building as I see it.

Many residents of this community discussed their opinions as to why we oppose the closing and demolishing of this center. One person said "They are chasing us out of town." Another person said "This place is used every day." "Look at all the empty places in town. It has even been used for church services when fire destroyed their church. Lectures, speeches, health topics, wedding dances, Campfire has met-and still does- for 30 years, Garden Clubs, Seniors in Motion exercises, city council and their offices.

The Toledo Community Building/Senior Center is a sound structure (brick) with functioning heating and air conditioning. Plenty of space that will adequately serve many ages and cultures for future generations.

I hope the center will not be uprooted and come to a DISCREET HALT.

(Make our Seniors a priority NOT WEALTH)
