July 8, 2017
By John Speer - Editor (jspeer@tamatoledonews.com) , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

After discovery of an American Flag in a recycling container at the Toledo collection site last week by Mayor Dave Svoboda, the subject of proper disposal has been a topic.

The mayor's photo of the flag among the recyclables was published in the June 30 issue of The Tama News-Herald.

Sue Schaffer, who has been a lifetime Toledo Legion Auxiliary member, suggested to The Chronicle this reminder: worn flags can be given to American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars posts for proper disposal.

In case you missed it in The Tama News-Herald, the photo at the right was taken by Toledo Mayor Dave Svoboda after he discovered an American Flag in one of the recyclables at the Toledo site. The Mayor commented, ““It is really sad how the public treats the flag that so many men gave their lives for.”

The American Legion website details the Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags which has bene used by the Legion since 1937 - www.legion.org/flag/ceremony.
