Filing for school board seats opens today

South Tama, Iowa Valley Community College Dist. posts on Sept. ballot

Two spots on the South Tama School Board and a trio of seats on the Iowa Valley Community College District board will be on the ballot for the Sept. 12 school elections. Nomination papers will be available beginning today, Monday, July 10. The filing period runs to Aug. 3.

Nomination papers may be obtained from South Tama School Board secretary Mary Boege. Papers for Iowa Valley seats are available from Barbara Jennings, board secretary.

Directors serve four-year terms both on the South Tama and Iowa Valley boards.

STC School Board positions held by Michelle Yuska, Toledo, District 1, and Alan Kline, District 4, will be on the ballot.

Iowa Valley Community College

For the Iowa Valley Community College District, the District VI post held by Yvonne Mallory, rural Toledo, is among those to be decided this year.

District 6 includes all that portion lying within the South Tama and Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcolm School Districts, and the portion of Grinnell-Newburg School District lying within MS Precinct in Poweshiek County of said school district.

The other Community College directors whose terms expire this year are District III, Delbert Kellogg, whose area includes all of the or portions of East Marshall, the portion of Grinnell-Newburg School District that lies within the Hickory Grove Precinct in Jasper County; and the portion of Marshalltown School District lying within the Third Ward in the City of Marshalltown and Eden / Logan, Jefferson and Timber Creek Precincts in Marshall County of said school district; and District IV represented by Deborah Jones, whose district includes all that portion lying within West Marshall School District and the portion of Marshalltown School District in the Second Ward in the City of Marshalltown and Bangor / Liscomb, Marietta / Washington and Taylor Precincts in Marshall County of said school district.

The Central Rivers Area Education Agency board position (formerly Area Ed. Agency 267) is held by Maureen Hanson, Hudson. Her term expires in 2019.

Hanson's territory includes South Tama, Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Grinnell-Newburg, Hudson, Montezuma, North Tama County and Union.

Area Ed. Agency?Board members are selected by a weighted vote of the school district boards of directors.
