Week 3 of Summer Reading at the Tama Public Library

July 14, 2017
By Julie Snook - Tama Library Director , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Our guest for Tuesday was Kaylee Crouse from the Blank Park Zoo. We were all anxious to see what animals she brought.

Kaylee started by telling the children that we had to be very quiet so that they wouldn't scare the animals.

I want to say I'm very proud of our kids-they did an excellent job of staying quiet.

Kaylee was also impressed, so she stayed longer so everyone had a chance to see each animal up close and touch a couple too. It was great for the kids but I need to tell a few parents, "sorry" we ran pretty long that day and put a kink in some people's schedules.

The four animals that came to visit were a duck, a crested gecko, a 23 year old box turtle and an albino rat.

Our craft was stained glass effect butterflies, leaves or birds. We used tissue paper squares for the colors. Our game was a made-up game using a hoola hoop and inflatable globes. It was pretty fun. We had dum dum suckers, prixy sticks and lemonade for our treat.

The Thursday group listened to 2 new books; Pond Circle and Hattie and Hudson. We repeated the same craft, game and treats with the little ones. We gave away lots of prizes too.

This week's shirt win-

ners were: McKayla Babinat, Dorothy YoungBear, Andrea Bolen, Marie Grismer, Jayva Gomez, Jaylynn Gomez, Michael Henry, Emma Johannsen, Keyleigh Rangel, Jonathan Ebersole, Preston Hanus, Maddy Brown, Oliver Brown, Katherin Carrera, Fernanda Barrientos, Guadalupe Barajas, Judith Cervantes, Danella Castro, Alexandra Castro and Payton Babinat.

Attendance of Tuesday was 85 and Thursday was 20.

Special thanks to Donna Smith for helping by filling in for Jean this week.
