Milo Buffalo Jr.

Milo Buffalo Jr., 59, of Tama, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Milo was born on November 11, 1957, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the son of Milo and Christine (Davenport) Buffalo.

Milo completed his Army practical nursing course at Ft. Bliss, TX in 1989 and also an Associate's Degree in Micro Computer Systems Network Engineering from Miller-Motte Technical College in Clarksville, TN.

He retired from the U.S. Army with twenty-three years, all in the Medical Corps. He began his military career as a combat medic and retired as a Platoon Sergeant. He worked in various medical clinics in the U.S. and overseas as a practical nurse and was deployed in 1990 to Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Milo was the current chairman of the Meskwaki Tribal Council.

On June 28, 2014, he married Maria "Suzi" Estes at the Tama Meskwaki Celebration Assembly of God Church in Tama.

Survivors include his wife, Suzi Buffalo; sons, Nathan Buffalo, Milo Buffalo III, Breonne Buffalo, and Kaiden Buffalo; sisters, Marsha Buffalo, and Melinda (Arlo) Wanatee; brothers, Mike Buffalo, Mark Buffalo, and Chris Buffalo; grandchildren, Shylin, Rayce, and Sophie Buffalo; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Bonnie Buffalo; nephew, Zachariah Buffalo; aunts, Nancy Davenport and Gladys Benson.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
