Tama Library’s Summer Reading Program “Build a Better World”

July 24, 2017
By Julie Shook - Tama Library Director , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

For our Tuesday, June 27, 2017 program I presented a slideshow of pictures from 1999 and 2000 when our new library building was built. It's been 17 years and none of the children present were born yet.

The kids were very interested in how the building went together and what it looks like underneath.

After the show we went outside to our "Beach". Manatt's was very generous and donated a whole dump truck full of sand for our Sandcastle building project.

Thanks to Jeff Upah at Manatt's and to Tama's Street Superintendent Stuart Einsentrager who brought the sand to us. Besides a play day at the beach the children painted pictures, made sidewalk chalk art, received temporary tattoos, and ate ice pops.

At Thursday's program I read three new books; Curious George Discovers Recycling; The Earth Book and Green, Green.

Thursday we did all the fun things that the Tuesday group did, just without a crowd.

This week's shirt winners were: Daniella Barajas; Janette Cervantes; Rebecca Cole; Sydney Culbertson; Whitney Culbertson; Clayton Babinat; Lindsey Backen; Jacob Ohman; Jonathan Ohman; Grant Lyon; Ximena Castanon; Manual Cervantes; Natalia Castanon; Livia Smith; Julitza Ramirez; Morgan Lyon; Clarissa Dvorak; Lilly Dostal; Angel Ramos and Anastasia Niles
