South Tama School Board Director Mark McFate, Toledo, has submitted his resignation effective at mid-term from the post to which he was re-elected in 2015 and has held since first being elected to fill an unexpired term in 2008.

"I'm very sorry to depart early, but i feel it is necessary for me to do so at this time so that I can devote more time to my family and a handful of volunteer interests," McFate wrote in his letter of resignation. "I do so knowing that the district is in good hands, with very capable and caring individuals at the helm.

The unexpired term for this District 2 position will be on the Sept. 12 regular school election ballot as well as the seats held by District 1 Director Michelle Yuska and District 4 Director Alan Kline.

The District 1 and 4 seats are for four-year terms and McFate's District 2 seat is for the unexpired two-year vacancy.

With the Thursday, Aug. 3, filing deadline closing in, no one had filed nomination papers for any of the positions at News-Herald press time on Wednesday.

Nomination papers are obtained from District Secretary Mary Boege at the School Administration Office, 1702 Harding, Tama.

Candidates must live within the boundaries of the director district they are seeking to represent.

Voters district-wide cast ballots for all seats however.
