Two newcomers will be the only candidates on the Sept. 12 ballot for seats on the South Tama School Board and the District 4 seat will be filled by write-in.

The deadline to file nomination papers with District Secretary Mary Boege was Thursday, Aug. 3. Boege said nomination papers had also been taken out by six others, but none were returned by the deadline.

Ronald Houghton, Toledo, filed papers for the District 1 board seat held by Michelle Yuska, Toledo, for a four-year term.

Mandy Lekin, Toledo, filed for the two-year unexpired term of District 2 member Mark McFate, Toledo, who is resigning effective in September. The term runs to Sept., 2019.

No one will be on the ballot for the District 4 post held by Alan Kline, rural Toledo. Kline was elected to the board in 2013 by write-in with no one on that ballot then either. The District 4 position is for a four-year term.

In the South Tama School District candidates must live within the district boundary for which they seek to represent. All directors are selected by a vote of the entire district however.
