The South Tama Trojans opened their season at Grinnell on Thursday, August 24. Starting for the Trojans were Madison Rohach, Sadie Smith, Jaelin Berger, Abbie Parizek, MacKenzie Beyer, Saylor Upah and Grace Jimenez (Libero).

"For our first match of the season against our rivals this was an exciting game," said head coach Amy Dolash, "Grinnell was able to get out to a quick lead in each game forcing us to battle back. We were able to come back from an 8 point deficient in the first game to win 25-23. The second and third game we just got in too big of a hole to dig out of. We made a few adjustments to the line-up and in the fourth game we started out strong. We kept the lead with a strong performance by Sadie who tallied 9 kills and Katie Riha at the serving line with an 8 point rally. In the fifth game we fought back to tie the game at 14-14 after being behind 8-13. Grinnell closed the game capitalizing on our errors."

Leading the Trojans overall in stats was Sadie Smith who had 5 sets, 24 kills, one assists, 7 digs and was 17/18 in serves. Leading in serves overall was Katie Campbell who was 22-22. Abbie Parizek had 21 assists, Jaelin Berger had two solo blocks and Grace Jimenez led in digs with 9.

"I'm really proud of how the girls played. They showed great mental toughness battling back and generating their own energy for momentum shifts. We'll learn from our mistakes in this one and be ready for our first conference match up at CCA next week," said Amy Dolash
