On Monday night, Oct. 16, the South Tama School Board met at the Meskwaki Tribal Center, a regular board meeting which is held once annually there. Members present were Alan Kline, Penny Tyynismaa, Jackie Dvorak and Mandy Lekin. Member Ronald Houghton was absent.

Each year the South Tama School District requests a Modified Allowable Growth for the Limited English Proficiency Program (LEP). The amount of $101,300 was requested for the coming year.

The board approved the request.

A second request for Modified Allowable Growth and Supplemental Aid for Special Education Deficit was also approved in the amount of $579,446. Every district may request modified allowable growth and supplemental aid for negative special education balance for the current school year.

The supplemental aid payment will be calculated by the Department of Management after all special education balances have been finalized. If a school district has a positive special education balance, they do not have the ability to request this aid.

The second reading of the Wellness Policy revisions was approved. One revision reads, "When feasible, the District will offer on an annual basis professional learning opportunities and resources for staff to increase knowledge and skills about promoting healthy behaviors in the classroom and school."

Personnel items included contracts approved on a 3-0 vote with Tyynismaa abstaining for Baron Davis as assistant varsity wrestling coach and Allison Graham as basketball cheer coach both effective in November. Hailey Weiss will transfer from High School ELL Educational Aide to High School At Risk.

Jason Arp will be a volunteer wrestling coach starting in October.

One resignation was approved. Teresa Schnieder has served as high school special education associate. The resignation was effective on Monday.

For the Baseball field, DuraEdge Products Inc. of Grove City, Pa., gave a quotation for 25 bulk ton of IL-M Dura Edge Amendment 40 with a delivered price of $3,450 and 25 Bulk Ton of IL-M DuraEdge Classic Infield Mix of $2,975.
