IHSAA releases Sectional, District Assignments

November 15, 2017
By Allison Graham - Sports Editor (agraham@tamatoledonews.com) , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The IHSAA has released the post season wrestling assignments for the sectional and District tournaments in February.

For the sectional tournament on February 3, South Tama will travel to Williamsburg where they will compete in the Sectional 12 grouping with Albia, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Grinnell, Knoxville and Williamsburg. The top two place winners in each weight class will advance on to the district tournament on February 10th.

The state-qualifying district tournament will take place at Knoxville High School where the qualifiers from Sectional 12 will meet qualifiers from Sectional 11. Sectional 11 schools include Bondurant-Farrar, Chariton, North Polk, PCM, Saydel and Van Meter/Earlham.

With five returning state qualifiers and a crop of young talent hoping to fill in some of the gaps seen last year, South Tama also has a trip to the state team dual tournament in its sights. The top two highest scoring teams from the February 3 sectional tournament will qualify for the regional dual meet that projects to be held on Tuesday, February 6.

The sites for the team dual regional meets are usually determined in late January following the release of the IWCOA team rankings in mid-January. Should the Trojans score a high ranking, they could have an opportunity to host a regional dual meet.

2017 State Place Winners looking to return to sectionals and districts include:

106 - Grayson Kesterson, Williamsburg (1st), Brock Beck, Grinnell (6th)

113 - Aden Reeves, Albia (1st)

120 - Sage Walker, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (8th)

126 - Gabe Ruepke, Chariton (4th), Brady Fritz, South Tama (7th)

132 - Alex Hanna, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (8th)

138 - Colton Vest, South Tama (5th)

152 - Isaac Judge, South Tama (1st)

160 - Lucas Roland, PCM (5th)

195 - Matthew Landsperger, Knoxville (5th)
