Paper Tigers, Casablanca are coming Wieting features

November 25, 2017
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Tama County SKIP, along with MICA and the Wieting Theatre, are hosting a free screening of Paper Tigers, a film that captures the pain, danger, beauty and hopes of struggling teens-and the teachers armed with new science and fresh approaches that are changing lives for the better.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 with a light meal served.

Paper Tigers follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Walla Walla, WA, that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students, and in the process has become a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, the classic film Casablanca will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Wieting.

The festival is sponsored and organized by Mr. Kennan Seda. The overall, long-term festival plan is to screen classic World War II movies over the next several years so older residents can enjoy these movies again and to hopefully expose younger students to some of the history of World War II.

This screening is free and open to the public. Free-will offerings will be accepted.

The Wieting's Nov. 26 screening of "Casablanca" marks the 75th Anniversary of the films release, on Nov. 26, 1942.
