Dear Boys and Girls of All Ages

The Way I See it

December 17, 2017
By Santa Claus subbing for John Sheda , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Ho Ho Ho.........Merry Christmas to all of you. Santa here. Yep, it's the real me!! Rudolph's fine as are all the elves. Mrs. Claus is busy wrapping presents, making cookies and getting the reindeer all ready for the big day. As you all know, I get tons of letters from all you boys and girls from all over the world and I enjoy each and every one of them. They truly warm my heart. But this year, I decided that it was time to jot down a few of my thoughts and write you all a letter too.

The North Pole is a fine place to live. Our closest neighbor is about 350 miles away and they have absolutely no idea who I really am. To them, I am just Nick and Mrs. Claus is, well, Mrs. Claus. I have never known her otherwise. Yes, the reindeer really can fly although I have no idea at all how they do it. They just fly. The original Rudolph died many years ago but his great, great, great, great grandson is now leading the gang. All the originals are gone but we keep using the same names year after year. But the Mrs and I are the originals. I'm not as chubby anymore and I stopped smoking that pipe years ago, so I feel like a new Santa. My sleigh now has a 'state of the art" GPS system, surround sound music and a phone system that is, well, out of this world. Over all, I do pretty well.

If I had my "druthers', here are some gifts that I would really love to give you this year....

The Gift of Appreciation. Appreciate what you do have. You're better off than well over two-thirds of the world.

The Gift of Generosity. Giving of yourself is the single greatest thing you can give and it feels great.

The Gift of Encouragement. We all need a little boost every now and then. Be an encourager to your fellow man.

The Gift of Hope. My my, this old world can be so tough to live in. Wrap up a little hope and give it to someone who doesn't have any this year.

The Gift of Prayer. Yes, I said prayer. Come on, everyone knows reindeer can't fly but with a little prayer, they do. Prayer works.

The Gift of Optimism. Get up in the morning and say to yourself, "Today is my day."

The Gift of Forgiveness. And also saying "I'm Sorry." What a great season to forgive and mend that relationship. Time goes by so fast. Don't waste another minute of it.

The Gift of a Sense of Humor. Come on....Ho Ho Ho.........learn to laugh, especially at yourself. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does...Har Har.

The Gift of Time. Time is perhaps the greatest gift you can give your loved ones. Turn of the TV, phone, Ipad, etc and get to know everyone again.

The Gift of Unconditional Love & Acceptance. You may not agree with the way they live or do things but heck, you can still love and accept them for who they are.

So, ho ho ho, from Mrs. Claus, the elves and all the Reindeer, have a great and blessed Christmas and start wrapping those presents. Oh, thanks to my wonderful friend John Sheda for letting me use his column space this week. He is one super guy. We all love your column John each and every week.

Let him know how much you love and appreciate him at or call him as I often do at 319-327-4640.

He'd love to hear from you.
