Marc Alan McCollister Sr., 61, of Tama, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Marc was born on April 19, 1956, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of LaVerne F. and Twila (Palmer) McCollister. He graduated from South Tama County High School where he played basketball and attended Marshalltown Community College. Marc had previously owned Twin City Oil. He was later employed by the Meskwaki Casino and Restonic Mattress. Marc's hobbies included camping, golf, and gardening, especially wild flowers. He also liked to play cards and enjoyed antique cars. Singing was another activity Marc enjoyed. He sang in the choir at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo and also participated in variety shows at the Wieting Theatre in Toledo. Marc volunteered as a Cub Scout Master when his children were growing up. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.

Survivors include nine children, Marc (Crystal) McCollister Jr. of Tama, Mathew McCollister of Toledo, Michael (Crystal) McCollister of Marshalltown, Cara McCollister of Independence, Bryce McCollister of Tama, Dustin (Emily) Naniot of Tama, Louis (Colleen) Naniot of Omaha, NE, Ben (Beth) Naniot of Tama, and Zack (Chelsea) Naniot of Tama; 16 grandchildren; and two sisters, Terri (Jerry) Vaske of Tama, and Ruth (Keith) Coady of Norwalk. Also surviving are his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
