Another career highlight was achieved on Thursday evening by one of South Tama's own. Senior Brady Fritz earned the 150th win of his career. The Trojans were at Independence for a double dual with the Mustangs and the Williamsburg Raiders on Thursday, Jan. 4.

"It feels great," said Fritz, "You work hard every day in practice and it shows. People that go out there and work hard, it shows on the mat."

Fritz now has his sights set on a much bigger prize, winning a state title.

Thursday was the first night back for STC following their winter break and unfortunately for the Trojans, the night did not go as well for the team as it went for Fritz.

The first dual of the of the night was with Williamsburg. Mario Moncada was first on the mat, jumping up to 285 for the dual. Moncada led the entire match but a take down by Keaton Zimmerman in the last three seconds resulted in a decision win for the Raiders. From there the Raiders went on a 23-0 streak. Brody Chyma was pinned at 106. The Trojans remain open at 113 and Brady Knode faced 1st ranked State Champ Grayson Kesterson at 120. Brayden Smith also recorded a loss for the Trojans as he faced 5th ranked (IAWrestle) Jalen Schropp at 126.

The Trojans finally got on the board with Fritz's 150th win over Garrett Jensen at 132. Fritz pinned Jensen in 13 seconds. Tanner Probasco recorded a 5-0 win. Colton Vest pinned Riley Holt and Isaac Judge pinned Gage Blythe. The senior mid weight quartet combined added 21 points to the Trojans team score.

Following that run however the Raiders clapped back with four wins of their own. Cavin Malloy won by decision over Pedro Rodriguez, Tucker Stanerson won 7-6 over Josh Thiessen, Isaac Maser stuck Aiden Waseskuk and 7th ranked Josh Holub stuck Ed Hemby.

The Trojans final team score came from Cael Kellogg at 220. Kellogg won by decision (10-4) over Clayton Kempf. The final team score was Williamsburg 41, South Tama 24.

The final dual of the evening was between South Tama and host Independence. The dual opened with STC forfeiting at 113 to give the Mustangs an easy six points. Once again, the Trojans did not get on the board until Fritz came up in the lineup at 132. Fritz pinned Fischer Crawford. Probasco, who has been nursing an injury all season sat the dual out. In his place was Garrett Arp. Arp was pinned by 6th ranked Matthew Doyle.

Colton Vest and Isaac Judge were able to add 12 points to the Trojans team score with pins over Joe Priebe and Jarret Orr. Pedro Rodriguez also captured a win. It was a nice win for the senior who faced opponent, Seth House, whom he had lost to earlier in the season. Rodriguez took a calculated approach to the match which resulted in a 5-0 win.

Coach Nate Van Dyke made some adjustments to his lineup and brought Payton Vest in at 170 and bumped Josh Thiessen up to 182. For Payton who is the freshman brother of Colton Vest it was some of the first varsity action he had seen this season. He fell to Cole Davis but Thiessen was able to capture a win over Kaine Millard by fall. The win brought the Trojans within one point of the Mustangs at 28-27. Cael Kellogg pinned Tayten Freidhof, giving the Trojans the lead at 33-28. But Independence did some of their own lineup shuffling. They bumped 7th ranked (220) Hunter Crawford against Mario Moncada at 285. A loss at 220 and another at 106 plus Crawford's win over Moncada gave the Mustangs enough for the dual win. The final score was Independence 46, South Tama 33. The Trojans were missing 6th ranked 182 pounder Dalton Rosenburg due to an injury and with Probasco also battling an injury plus giving up a weight class at 113, the two duals were a tall task for the Trojans.
