The STC Trojans travelled to PCM for their second of three varsity boy/girl double headers on Thursday, Jan. 25.

The Trojan girls won their contest 59-34 while the boys couldn't climb out of a first half deficit and fell by three, 56-53.

Coach Todd Dale went with a slightly different lineup on Thursday and incorporated junior forward Zoee Buffalo into the mix. Buffalo's height was a perfect weapon for the Trojans at the post position. She scored a season high 14 points and saw the most minutes she's seen in a varsity game yet.

Leading the Trojans once again was Jessica Musgrave who had another stellar performance, collecting her third double-double with 31 points and 10 rebounds. The speed and physicality of Musgrave and the height of Buffalo was too much for the Mustangs to handle.

The non-conference matchup became more interesting after the announcement by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Thursday of the post season assignments. South Tama will host the Mustangs once again on Saturday, Feb. 10 for their Class 3A regional opener.

In boys action the Trojans came face-to-face with a solid basketball team. The Mustangs had a similar record as the Trojans at 12-4. South Tama was 11-3 headed into the game.

PCM had a lot of height on their team which gave them a nice advantage. PCM led the night by more than 10 points in the first half. The Trojans were however able to cut the Mustang's led in the second half. Gabe Shields, Sterling Tyon and Kaiden Buffalo each knocked down three's that cut into PCM's lead.

In the final seconds of the game the Trojans had closed the gap to just three. They locked down their defense as well which helped them create offense. Kaiden Buffalo took a last second three point to try and tie the game up but the attempt was just a hair short and bounced off the outer rim.
