Musgrave sinks 1,000th career point

Joining the 1000 career point club has been her goal since donning a varsity jersey her freshman year. As a junior that goal came to fruition last week. South Tama hosted Benton in their regular season finale and defeated the Bobcats 54-45.

Headed into the contest, Jessica Musgrave needed seven points to hit 1,000. After the tip-off, she did what she does best and attacked the hoop. Her 1,000th point came from the free throw line in the first quarter. She had put up a jump shot and drew a foul. As the ball released from her hands it sailed right through the net. The South Tama team, crowd and student section erupted in celebration. Head Coach Todd Dale quickly called a timeout as Musgrave was greeted by her teammates both on the court and on the bench to help her celebrate. What she has continued to do so well throughout her career is take the ball and drive. She is able to create opportunities on the defensive end for herself to score. She can drive into the lane and split the defenders. About the only way to stop her is to double team her. The only team who has done that successfully this season is No. 1 ranked Marion.

"I feel amazing," said Musgrave, "I literally came into high school saying this was my goal. I wanted 1,000 points. My teammates and my coaches made it happen and I'm so thankful."

The Trojans went to work in the second quarter, outscoring Benton 22-13. Musgrave once again led the Trojans with 24 points. She averages 21.8 points per game. She's 9th in the State of Iowa and 2nd in Class 3A for scoring average.

The Trojans closed out their regular season 12-9 and finished third in the conference.
