Special to the Chronicle

Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

A display of the work of Will Perkins is current on exhibit at the Toledo Public Library. It will run through April.

Here's the background of the artist and this art form:

My name is Willi Perkins. I reside in Marshalltown. Growing up, I credit my parents for their artistic background and their appreciation for all aspects of art. Art has always come naturally to me. I love to upcycle and look for treasures around me to repurpose in creative ways that are beautiful and unique.

I started my book folding adventure back in November, 2015. My family have supported me in my new art form. I take an old book and give it a new life; purpose. Each book is sculpted with detail and precision. My math skills are kept sharp and I take great pride in my finished make. My folds bring conversation which is fun and enjoyable.

I test designer's patterns from around the world. I have gained rapport with each and every one of them. I feel blessed that our paths have crossed and that we have bonding friendships; a fellowship of like-minded people to share a common interest.
