Pauline Darlene Mochal

Pauline Darlene Mochal, 91, of Hiawatha and formerly of Toledo, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 9 AM until the time of service at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.

Pauline was born on October 25, 1926, in rural Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of James and Anna (Dostal) Hrstka.

She graduated from Tama High School in 1944. After high school, Pauline taught country school in rural Elberon.

On August 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Vernon James "Jim" Mochal in Chelsea, Iowa. Pauline helped Jim farm. After spending years as a homemaker, she worked for the Tama County Abstract until her retirement. Pauline was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama during her time residing in the area. She enjoyed flower gardening, and she and Jim won awards for the beautiful yard they kept. She also enjoyed traveling after her retirement.

Survivors include her children, Rick (Paula) Mochal of Lost Nation, Kathy Mochal of Cedar Rapids, and Sheri (David) Cook of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Jim, Jason, and Joe Mochal, Theresa Smith, and Rick Auchus; five great-grandchildren, Lexi, George, Olivia, and Pierce Mochal, and Jackson Smith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jim Mochal on April 4, 2000; two sisters, Agnes Kratoska, and Helen Kucera; and one brother, Emil Hrstka.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
