When South Tama students in grades first- fourth come to school next week, they'll be planting their own trees.

Margaret Wolfe, Tama Paperboard sales manager, is heading a program locally - TICCIT- "Trees Into Cartons, Cartons into Trees Educational Program." It is a national effort of the Paperboard Packaging Council which it says "highlights the biodegradability of paper-based packaging."

And fittingly, the South Tama Elementary School programs come just before the observance of Earth Day on April 22, Wolfe says.

Tama Paperboard has purchased 400 oak trees form the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to give to each student so they may plant their own tree. Special cartons are being made for Tama Paperboard for the event.

Wolfe says a power point presentation geared to young students will be presented along with a live tree for each student. They will be encouraged to take the trees home and plant them in their own yard.
