STC Girls Tennis Falls to Oskaloosa

April 18, 2018
By Coach Steve Bearden , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The weather has been less than ideal to start the 2018 tennis season. Lower than average temperatures and several surprising snow events have limited time on the tennis court. This lack of preparation was evident as the South Tama County Girls Tennis Team fell to Oskaloosa on April 10 by a score of 1-8.

The lone victory for STC came at #2 Doubles as Zoee Buffalo and Anna Glendy teamed to grab their second win of the season. They downed Jori VanDenberg and Gracie Glasgow 10-5. In other doubles action, Macy Sharff and Josie Bunnell defeated South Tama's Bri Nelson/Abbie Morgan 10-7 at #1 Doubles. South Tama's Abby Buffalo and Daniela Contreras teamed for the first time this season at #3 Doubles. The duo played valiantly, but fell 6-10 to Ashley Drost and Jolie Yang.

South Tama could not find any sort of consistency as they put themselves in a difficult position during singles play to start the meet. Senior Bri Nelson fell 1-10 at #1 Singles against Macy Sharff. Abbie Morgan dropped a 2-10 match to Josie Bunnell at #2 Singles. Junior Zoee Buffalo faded late in her match with Jori VanDenberg as she fell 6-10 at #3 Singles.

In JV play, South Tama fell 3-7 to Oskaloosa. STC gained wins from the doubles teams of Skyler Steveson/Alaria Harken, Allison Thomazin/Alexes Baeza, and Aubrey Roberts/Shauna Kapayou.
