South Tama, Meskwaki compete at East Marshall Relays

Thursday was just the second outdoor meet the Trojans have been able to compete at this season. The weather has been forcing cancellations and postponements, wreaking havoc on spring sports. Between all the days of cold and snow South Tama girls track competed at the East Marshall Relays on Thursday, April 12.

The Trojans finished 10th with 33.5 points. South Tama's top performer came from high jumper Stacey Slaven. Slaven jump 5'0 scoring 10 points for the team and won the event. South Tama's distance runner Callie Frakes also had a solid performance taking 2nd in the 3000 M Run, 6th in the 1500 Meter Run and 3rd in the 800 Meter Run. Frakes racked up 15 points for the Trojans.

Also scoring team points for the Trojans were the 4x200 Relay team and the 400 Meter Shuttle Hurdle Relay team. Morgan Haughey also earned .5 points for her high jump at 4'8.

For Meskwaki Settlement Schools Payton Tahahwah finished 17th in the 100 Meter Hurdles (19.87). Tahahwah also finished 9th in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:22.64). In field events Nina Seymour took 35th in Discus (61'04) and Danielle Seymour took 29th (68'0). Tahahwah took 12th in the High Jump (4'04). Jade Sanache took 19th in the Long Jump (11'05). Danielle Seymour finished 8th in the Shot Put (31'02.50) and Nina Seymour took 36th (21'02). MSS also finished 20th in the 4x100 Relay.

Coming up next for the Trojans is their home meet on Thursday. The Trojans will host Davenport Assumption, Denver Community Schools, Grinnell, Hudson, PCM, Southeast Polk, West Marshall and Williamsburg.

Thursday's home meet will be the final opportunity for track athletes to qualify for the Drake Relays. The Drake Relays are set to take place next week from Wednesday, April 25 - Saturday, April 28.

State Track and Field is also right around the corner. The Trojans will be competeing at Districts in Pella on Thursday May 10 along with Benton, Chariton, Clear Creek-Amana, Grinnell, Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Pella.

State Track and Field will be held at Drake Stadium on May 17-19.
