Alma Elizabeth (Clayton) Peters

Alma Elizabeth (Clayton) Peters passed away on April 18, 2018. A memorial service will be held at Living Faith United Methodist Church, Tama, on April 27, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. She will be laid to rest at a later date in Welch Comorian Cemetery near Cotter, Iowa.

Alma was born to Jack and Ruth Clayton on October 28, 1923, near Burlington, Iowa.

Alma met Cal Peters and they married November 1952. They lived in Ainsworth, Iowa, for eight years during which Calma was born in 1954 and Lisa arrived in 1960. In 1961, they all packed up and moved to Tama, Iowa, where Cal accepted a new position at the Iowa Juvenile Home.

Preceded in death are her parents Jack and Ruth Clayton, two brothers Phillip and Clay, and husband Calvin Loyd Peters. Surviving her are her two daughters Calma (Frank) McDowell of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Lisa Doran of Toledo, Iowa; her grandsons Nathan (Rachel) Doran and Derek Doran,, Tama, Tyson Peters and Frank Osborne both of of Marshalltown, Iowa; and her great grandchildren Nya Doran, Ella Peters, Addilyn Peters, Cassius Peters and Journee Osborne.

Alma was a member of many clubs. She and her husband were active in the Tama-Toledo Country Club, Tama Methodist Church, and of course, the Iowa Hawkeyes. She and Cal enjoyed life and spending time together with family and friends. They were avid golfers especially couple's night. She enjoyed playing the piano for everyone at the club. They also went to many Iowa Hawkeye football games. Alma followed her grandsons all over to watch them play sports during high school and college. She was a shining light that left her positive mark where she went and whomever she met!
