What a night of baseball for the South Tama County Trojans. STC hosted Center Point-Urbana for a WaMaC West conference double header and swept the Stormin' Pointers 4-3 and 11-1.

Monday's performance marked the first WaMaC West sweep at home for the Trojans this season. The last time the Trojans won two WaMaC West games at home was in the 2015-16 season when they beat Independence.

"Two nice conferences wins for the kids last night over a good Center Point-Urbana team," said head coach Seth Koch.

Getting the night started on the mound was Cael Kellogg. Kellogg earned the win for the Trojans and extended his record to 3-1. He went for five and 2/3 innings allowing two runs, seven hits, he struck out six and walked just one. Brayden Smith relieved Kellogg in the middle of the fifth inning and Carter Kriegel would come in to pitch to the final batter in the seventh inning and earn the save.

The Trojans got on the board early, building a four run lead. The Pointers answered back with two runs in the top of the 2nd. They cut the Trojans' lead to 4-3 in the top of the 7th forcing STC to rely on their defense to hold off the Pointers. Dylan Harris and Maverick Gatrost all picked up RBIs in the rally but the Trojan defense held strong to capture the 4-3 victory.

Mitchell McCauley took the loss for Center Point-Urbana. He went six innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out four.

Carter Kriegel, Matt Wiese, and Mickey Wanatee all had one hit to lead STC.

Center Point-Urbana totaled seven hits in the game. Aaron Wendel and Harris collected multiple hits for CPU.

"First game was kind of interesting as both teams scored in the 1st inning and then not another run until the 7th inning. Cael Kellogg did a nice job on the mound even though he struggled with his control at times. Brayden Smith and Carter Kriegel came into the ballgame in tough situations and pitched out of trouble to close things out," said Koch.

Game two of the double header started out a bit slow. CPU scored one run in the first and the Trojans clapped back with two to close out the first inning.

Offensively things really got rolling for STC in the bottom of the third inning. The Trojans were able to secure the win with six runs.

Carter Kriegel took the win for the Trojans. Kriegel's outing got off to a rocky start after allowing a first inning solo home run to McCauley, but the junior right hander battled back and managed to shut out the Pointers the rest of the way. Kriegel moves to 2-1 on the season with an impressive 0.66 ERA and 27 strikeouts across 21 1/3 innings of play. It was also a productive night at the plate for Kriegel who went 3-3 with a double and three RBIs. Also hitting the ball very well for the Trojans were Cam Klostermann and Payton Vest. Klostermann had two hits while Vest had a single, a triple, and three RBI's.

"Offensively in Game #2 we hit the ball as well as we have all season. Everyone up and down the lineup hit the ball hard. We ran the bases aggressively and were able to put some pressure on CPU's defense," said Koch.

"One of the keys tonight was our ability to get the leadoff man on base in every inning or we got the crucial two out hit. Those are both things we had been missing earlier in the season," said Koch.

The Trojans will be at home again on Monday, June 18 to host Williamsburg (3-15).
