James A. Walker

James A. Walker, 77, of Clutier, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo as a result of lung cancer. A Family Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Clutier Cemetery in Clutier. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Adam Todd officiating.

James was born on July 24, 1940, in rural Madison, County, Iowa, the son of Albert Cecil and Bessie Irene (Headley) Walker.

Jim graduated from New Virginia High in 1959, William Penn in 1963, and the University of Iowa in 1972.

On June 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Burggraaf in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Jim was a math educator all of his life having taught at Miles, Prescott, Wapello, West Bend, South Tama, Graceland University, and Marshalltown Community College. He retired in 2003 and then came out of retirement four times finally retiring in 2018. Jim served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, nursing home minister, prayer meeting leader and pulpit supply for the various churches he attended. He enjoyed train museums, cows, traveling, WWII history, his grandchildren, eating peas right out of the garden, and lobster tails.

Survivors include his wife of fifty five years, Carolyn L. Walker of Clutier; son, David J. (Tammy) Walker of Theodore, Alabama; daughter, Debra L. (Robert) Clobes of Georgetown, Delaware; four grandchildren, Anna Walker of Theodore, Alabama, Colt, Olivia, and Natalie Clobes of Georgetown, Delaware; brother, John K. (Diane) Walker of Westfield, North Carolina; sister, Esther L. Walker of Ames; sister-in-law, Shannon R. Walker of Manhattan, Kansas; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Charles E. Walker.

A memorial fund will be established.
