Alfred John "Sickle" Kriz

Alfred John "Sickle" Kriz, 89, of Clutier, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with Father David Kucera as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 from 4-7 PM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer.

Alfred was born on February 8, 1929, on the family farm in rural Clutier, the son of Joseph F. and Christina (Kadrmas) Kriz.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Alfred farmed three miles west of Clutier until retiring in 1997. He continued living on the farm until moving into town in 2007. Alfred loved woodworking and enjoyed caring for his flowers. He liked riding around on his golf cart and taking the local ladies for rides along with giving them yellow peonies. While living on the farm, Alfred enjoyed mowing and taking care of his garden. He liked to socialize and spend time with his family. Alfred enjoyed playing cards, especially Pepper. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer, KD Lodge, and the Clutier American Legion.

Survivors include one brother, Frank Kriz of Clutier; two sisters, Evelyn Carlson of Tama and Martha Breja of Vining; and one sister-in-law, Donna Kriz of Waterloo. Alfred is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant brother; sister, Pauline at age two; three brothers, Melvin, Joe R., and Ludwig Kriz; two sisters-in-law, Betty Kriz and Marcella Kriz; two brothers-in-law, Donald Carlson and James Breja; and a nephew, Joey M. Kriz.

A memorial fund will be established.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
