It’s A Dog’s Life!!

The Way I See it

July 22, 2018
By John Sheda , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Last week if you remember we were discussing with Rover, Spot, Charlie, Max, Peppy and a variety of other dogs about the "dog days of summer." It was a great time and all the dogs enjoyed learning about the dog-star, Sirius. They hooted, howled and barked with glee and excitement. However a day or so later, several of these same dogs came scratching at my door, wanting to reciprocate by sharing their thoughts, ideas and other life lessons with me.

I was humbled to say the least and was all ears, (pun intended).

One of the older dogs barked to me, "You humans are born and then have to learn how to have a good life-like loving everybody all the time and just being kind and nice.

Well, us dogs, know how to do this instinctively from the moment we're born."

Another dog, named Boobach, (strange name I know, but some of your names are strange too), piped up and began giving me a dog's view of living life to the fullest.

Other dogs also shared their thoughts and ideas. So here they are....

When your loved ones come home, be excited to see them and run to greet them.

Let the fresh air and the wind in your face brighten up your day.

Let that fresh air and wind greet you every day of your life.

Take naps. Plenty of naps. And don't feel guilty. Just take naps.

Always stretch and stretch before rising from a good sleep.

Run, jump, romp and play every single day. Repeat several times a day.

Thrive on attention and let people touch your nose.

Avoid biting when probably a simple growl will suffice.

On nice warm days, go outside and lie on your back in the grass. It feels great.

On those hot days, drink lots of water and then take a nap under a shade tree.

When your simply happy, dance around in circles and wag your entire body,

Delight in the pure joy of a nice walk around the neighborhood.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something or somebody you're not. Just be you!!

If something you want is buried deep, dig until you find it.

When someone you love is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and every once in a while nuzzle them gently.

And finally..............ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY.

With that little lesson on life, the dogs once again barked profusely their "good-byes" and they went chasing their tails and sniffing each other.

One dog, "T-Bird" suggested that we humans should not go around sniffing each other. It's a dog thing he said and they all agreed.
