EVERLY, Iowa - Senator Chuck Grassley has been named a U.S. Wind Champion for the 115th Congress by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) at an event hosted by Alliant Energy. AWEA is presenting U.S. Wind Champion Awards to select members of the 115th Congress who have taken action in support of American wind energy. The award ceremony is a highlight of American Wind Week, August 5-11, a national celebration of U.S. leadership in wind power.

"It's an honor to receive this award from America's leading wind energy advocates. Wind is a critical part of our nation's all-of-the-above energy strategy. It creates thousands of jobs, generates billions of dollars across Iowa and the nation, it's safe for the environment and it helps ensure American energy independence," Grassley said. "Wind is an efficient, cost-effective energy alternative. I'm proud to support wind energy and I'll continue to do what I can in the Senate to help it grow and flourish."

DUBUQUE- From the Blum Campaign: Immediately following the primary election in June, Congressman Rod Blum challenged his new opponent Rep. Abby Finkenauer to 12 debates. Finkenaur responded with an affirmative, "Fun! Awesome!" Despite her enthusiasm, the Finkenauer campaign has so far refused to accept the previously challenged 12 debates and has been unwilling to negotiate to any specific number of debates through election day.

Rep. Blum added, "If 12 debates are unacceptable, then let's move to 10 and hold them once a week beginning on August 22nd in towns all throughout the district. Constituents in the First District of Iowa deserve to hear a long-form discussion of our ideas and personal experience in their towns & cities, not only be exposed to millions of dollars of thirty-second attack ads two weeks before the election."

Congressman Blum has also accepted the three remaining invitations from KXEL Radio, the Anamosa Journal-Eureka, and the Waverly Democrat Newspaper.

DES MOINES - Secretary of State Paul Pate's annual Iowa State Fair Straw Poll will include the races for governor and all four U.S. House seats. The poll will be conducted on iPads at the Secretary's booth inside the Varied Industries Building throughout the Iowa State Fair, August 9-19. Rotating questions about favorite famous Iowan, State Fair food and State Fair Grandstand acts will also be included.

"Voting isn't just a civic duty. It can be fun, and the State Fair Straw Poll is great way to get people thinking about the November elections. It will also enable us to gauge the state of the races at this point," Secretary Pate said. "I want every eligible Iowan to register to vote and to be a voter."

Real time results will be available on the tablets in the Secretary of State's booth, as well as on his website, Secretary Pate invites all State Fair attendees to visit his booth and cast a vote in the Straw Poll. He is extending invitations to all three political parties and all announced candidates to participate as well.

Secretary Pate and his staff will be on hand throughout the Iowa State Fair to help Iowans register to vote or update their voter registration information. Online and paper voter registration methods will be available.

Secretary Pate's State Fair Straw Poll is unscientific and intended for entertainment purposes only.
