2018 South Tama Activity Boosters, Inc. Membership Drive Underway

August 17, 2018
By Steve Bearden , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

A staple in the South Tama County Community for over forty years, South Tama Activity Boosters, Inc. continues to support student activities across all programs within the South Tama County School District. The club is pleased to announce its 2018 Membership Drive and invites all community members to show their support by becoming a member. Membership levels are $25, $50, $100, $300, and $500. Dues can be mailed to: South Tama County Activity Booster Club, PO Box 123, Tama, Iowa 52339 or brought to a home football game where club members are present in the Booster Club Trailer. All members receive a gift to acknowledge their donation.

Look around the grounds of South Tama and you will see the influence of this group. In 2013, a new digital sign was installed on HWY 63 to communicate school events to the public. The project was funded by the club and the Charley Townsley Family. Contributions from South Tama Activity Boosters, Inc. have built softball dugouts, funded the all-weather track, resurfaced tennis courts, remodeled restrooms at the football stadium, and paid for seating in the gymnasium. New wrestling mats were also purchased with funds from the organization.

In addition, funding was provided for sound systems at the baseball and softball stadiums. Volleyball nets and stands, long jump boards, a soccer field irrigation system, new softball turf and irrigation system, and strength and conditioning materials have all been funded by the club. Record boards and banners were purchased by the club to highlight the success of South Tama Activities.

Training equipment has been purchased for nearly all athletic programs within the South Tama County School District over the years. Football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, baseball, and softball programs at the middle and high school levels have been granted funds from the club.

It is important to understand that the club supports all activities within the school district. Significant donations have been given to large group speech, individual speech, marching band, drama, and choir activities. New risers were purchased for the middle school music department. A concessions trailer was donated by the club and donated to the school district. This trailer is used to sell concessions at soccer, softball, and cross country events.

The organization has also supported clubs within the district such as Gamers Club and Archery Club. The cheer and spirit programs have benefited from donations from the South Tama County Activity Booster Club. This has allowed them to purchase cheer and mascot materials.

The club strives to foster school spirit by offering STC and Trojan metal landscaping signs to the community. The group also sells merchandise at events such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, umbrellas, sling bags, and pennants.

South Tama Activity Boosters, Inc. coordinates the following annual events: Ken Kolpin Open 4-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament, Jam the Gym (Basketball), Pin the Gym (Wrestling), Alumni Night, and the Lincoln Highway Days 5K Run. The group supports Project Prom and the Dollars for Scholars Program annually. The club is visible at all home football games, the homecoming parade, and the Tama Lincoln Highway Days Parade.

The club meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 PM in the Community Room at the State Bank of Toledo at 103 S. Broadway in Toledo. All members are welcome to attend.
