With the start of school set STC is not only welcoming new students, but also a new position to the administration team. Levi Hunerdosse will serve as the Assistant HS/MS Activities Director for the 2018-19 school year.

Hunerdosse graduated high school from South Warren where he was a four-sport athlete. He went on to obtain his teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Following college Hunerdosse gained some valuable coaching experience at Aplington-Parkersburg under the guidance of the late Falcons athletic director and coach Ed Thomas.

Hunerdosse has been teaching at South Tama for eight years. He began at the middle school teaching Special Education and coaching middle school track and football. In 2016 Hunerdosse took over as head coach of the STC high school girls track and field team. A year later he began teaching Health at the high school. For the 2018/19 school year Hunerdosse will continue to teach Health and coach Girls Track as well as his duties as the Assistant HS/MS Activities Director.

Current HS Assistant Principal and Activities Director Brent Bagnall shared concerns at a school board meeting last spring that the joint principal/director position was too much for one person to handle. Over the past five years there have been four different people in the position including Jeremy Jones (2013-2014), Ben Adams (2014-15), Dan Phipps (2015-2017) and now Bagnall. Non-administrative, event coordinator positions have been in place at South Tama for close to a decade and will continue alongside the current administrative format. Hunerdosse was the fall coordinator in 2017 and his duties in that role will be absorbed into his new administrative position. Currently the Winter Event Coordinator is Michelle Bradley and the Spring Event Coordinator is Lon Wilkerson.

For the 2018-19 school year, Bagnall will remain the full-time HS Activities Director as well as Assistant Principal. His responsibilities will include but are not limited to purchasing, Code of Conduct issues, evaluations and disciplinary matters. Hunerdosse will be in charge of night time supervision at events. He will also be assisting with some middle school events as needed. Scott Bolen is the full-time Activities Director for the middle school. During the winter and spring seasons the event coordinator responsibilities will include meeting referees, supervision and any other issues that may arise during events.

The creation of the Assistant HS/MS Activities Director position will hopefully allow Hunerdosse and the Activities Department to do more. He has the hope of potentially live streaming events in the future. Bagnall shared that there are misconceptions about all that goes into school events. There is a lot of behind the scenes planning that takes place to make events go smoothly.

For newly hired Superintendent Jared Smith, the creation of the position was a way for the district to compromise and communicate to the staff that they hear their concerns. Smith shared that other schools similar in size to South Tama have a full time AD and full time AP, he also recognizes that creating three full-time administrators at the high school would be a costly move for the district. Smith encourages everyone to give it a year and see what happens and what the right solution may be.

"This is a year that we will look and see what are the demands and roles are," said Smith.

Football Seating Change

The 2018 Football season kicks off on Friday evening. With that, the school district would like to make fans aware of a seating change in the stands.

The South Tama County Marching Band will be returning to the stands after being previously located in the north end zone.

The band will be seated along the northern most end of the bleachers.
