The Trojans took another conference loss after traveling to Benton on Tuesday, September 11. STC fell to the Bobcats in three straight sets 31-29, 25-21 and 25-9. It was the third straight WaMaC west conference loss for the Trojans and puts their season record at 2-11.

The thing is things started out really well for the Trojans. They were passing the ball well which coach Amy Dolash shared was all they had been working on in practice for the last three days. It showed. It was some of the best passing the Trojans have accomplished all season. They were also responding on defense much better as well.

"What happened in game one is exactly what I would have loved to see happen, especially after we had been focusing on it in practice," said Dolash.

They jumped out to a five point lead and then something just happened. One mistake led to two and that led to Benton threatening the Trojans lead. The Trojans got visibly flustered and just couldn't regain that control they held earlier in the set.

The game went on for some time as both the Trojans and Bobcats fought for that first set win. It ultimately ended with Benton taking the win 31-29.

"When you've got a momentum swing, five points in volleyball is a huge things when you only play to 25. Being up like we were and the next thing you know you might go into panic mode a little bit which is where the mental toughness comes in. Staying relaxed, staying calm, coming into the huddle with a purpose so they help each other stay focused," said Dolash.

Mental toughness is a big part of any game and it's something the Trojans actively work on. Dolash said they do drills to focus on different scenarios. They do lots of short game scenarios that puts them in the scenario of playing when the score is close.

"Being mentally tough has a lot to do with you positive you stay. It's really easy with volleyball being a game of errors to get down on yourself and your teammates. You just worked hard to save the ball and they miss the next one. I don't care how upset you are you are coming back being positive about it and shaking it off to get the next point," said Dolash.

Game two saw the Bobcats jumping out to an early led. This time it was the Trojans who caught up and tied things up at 14 all. They even took the lead 15-14 but the Bobcats bounced back winning the second set 25-21.

It was all Benton in set three. The Bobcats found all the holes, were able to block and simply dominated for a sweep with a set three win of 25-9.

The Trojans will be back in action at a tournament on Saturday in Ballard.
