Supports Heeren for County Attorney

October 22, 2018
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Dear Editor:

I have known Brent Heeren, Tama County Attorney, for over 35 years. I first met Brent at Drake Law School in 1979.

We managed to graduate from Drake and go about our ways in the world. Brent would go on to become a prosecutor in Tama County where he and his wife settled. They would raise four children right there in Toledo.

I couldn't begin to count the number of cases I handled in my career with Brent on the other side. It would have to be several hundred cases. Many jury trials as well as trials to the court. We are friends outside the courtroom but when we walk through those double doors, it's business.

We have butted heads many, many times. We have fought and scrapped. You won't find a more professional, competent and dedicated prosecutor. Brent knows his cases and knows his facts. If you think being a prosecutor is an easy job, go for it.

The common thread in contested elections for the job, plea bargaining comes up. It's a part of this business. You cannot try every case. There wouldn't be enough judges, juries or courtrooms. There is so much that goes into the process that all need to understand. Victims must be given consideration. Brent does that. He puts his victims first. That's the mark of a good prosecutor.

I encourage all my Tama County friends and former clients to cast your vote for Brent Heeren, Tama County Attorney. Thank you.
